How Li diffusion in spinel Li[Ni<sub>1/2</sub>Mn<sub>3/2</sub>]O<sub>4</sub> is seen with <i>?</i> <sup>±</sup>SR

Abstract The diffusive behavior in a spinel-type Li + ion battery material, Li[Ni 1/2 Mn 3/2 ]O 4 , has been studied with positive and negative muon spin rotation relaxation ( ? ± SR) measurements the temperature range between 200 400 K using powder sample. implanted locates at an interstitial site near O 2? so as to form O–H like bond, while ? is mainly captured by oxygen nucleus, resulting formation of muonic oxygen. This means that local magnetic environments were investigated from two different sites lattice, i.e., one for SR other SR. Since both detected increase fluctuation rate nuclear field temperatures above K, origin this clearly confirmed diffusion. Assuming random walk process hopping thermally activated regular nearest neighboring vacant octahedral sites, self-diffusion coefficient was found 10 ?11 cm 2 /s 250 activation energy about 0.06 eV.
